Wherever vacuum pumps are used, they are soon contaminated by water vapour, necessitating regular oil changes to keep them operating efficiently.

If they are used on vacuum ovens, resin casting, or similar situations, other volatile chemicals such as solvents coming from the process will also contaminate them.

The solution is to place a refrigerated trap before the pump at temperatures between -50°C and -100°C to condense out all contaminants, improve the vacuum and vastly extend the life of the vacuum pump.
